M1.4 Screws

M1.4 screws have a 1.4 mm thread and a fine 0.3 mm pitch. They show up in places with very little material to thread into: laptop power-button and fingerprint-reader brackets, harmonica reed plates, and similar small assemblies. Our M1.4 screws are 2 mm long, sold as singles and in packs.

To confirm M1.4, measure the thread with calipers (about 1.3-1.4 mm) and compare it with any M1.6 screws nearby, which look almost the same. Measure an old screw with calipers: the thread diameter gives the M number and the length gives the second figure. On a countersunk head the length is measured overall, head included; on a flat-bottomed head it is measured from under the head to the tip. Drive them by hand with a #000 precision bit and stop as soon as the head seats; at this size it is easy to strip the thread in a plastic boss.
