Laptop Replacement Keys by Model: Find the Right Keycap & Hinge

Find your keyboard: look up the model on the label under your laptop, find it below, and pick the key from the listing's drop-down. Jump to Acer · Apple · Asus · Dell · HP · Logitech · Samsung.

One broken or missing key does not mean a new keyboard. Each listing below is for one keyboard family and sells single keys, chosen from a drop-down of letters, numbers and function keys. Most include the keycap, hinge clip and rubber cup; check the listing's "What's included".

Before you order: three checks

  1. Exact model: the model number on the bottom label (for example AN515-57 or 15-ba009dx), not just the series name.
  2. Hinge style: gently lift a neighbouring key and compare its clips with the listing photos. If the listing offers Type 1 / Type 2, pick the matching one.
  3. Layout and backlight: listings are US English unless stated; backlit keyboards may use different keycaps from non-backlit ones, so check the listing title.

FAQ

Can you replace a single key on a laptop?

Yes, on most laptops with scissor-switch keys. You need the keycap, its hinge (retainer) clip and, if it was lost, the rubber cup, all made for your keyboard model. The key then presses back on without opening the laptop.

How do I know which replacement key fits my laptop?

Find the exact model number on the label under the laptop, then match it to a listing below. Then look under a neighbouring key: the hinge clips must match the style on your keyboard. Hinges that look alike are not always interchangeable.

What are Type 1 and Type 2 on some listings?

Some keyboards were built with two different hinge (retainer) styles. Those listings let you pick Type 1 or Type 2; compare a neighbouring key's clips with the product photos and pick the match.

Is a whole keyboard replacement better?

Not usually for one or two keys. On many laptops the keyboard is riveted or glued into the palmrest, so replacing the whole keyboard means replacing the top case. A single key snaps on in a minute.

How do I fit the new key?

Line the hinge clip up with the keyboard base, then press the keycap down gently until it clicks.
