The screws used on HP LaserJet 9000/9040/9050 series printer are M3 and M4 in lengths from 6 to 29.5 mm.

There are 8 separate fitment records for it, including parts list: Screw, tapping M3 by 6 mm (M3), parts list: Screw, pan head M3 by 6 mm (to hold plastic to plastic) (M3) and parts list: Screw, w/washer M3 by 6 mm (M3), plus 5 more in the table below.

Head and drive, as the sources state them: pan head.

8 of the 8 records are marked confirmed, drawn from 1 source (qcs1.com).

How to check the screw before you buy

  1. Printers and POS terminals often use self-tapping screws into plastic; re-use the original thread path instead of cutting a new one.
  2. Diameter: across the threads an M3 screw measures about 3 mm with calipers (usually a hair under). This device also uses M4, so measure each screw rather than assuming they match.
  3. Pitch: 0.5 mm from one thread crest to the next (20 crests per centimetre). A thread pitch gauge or the pitch-gauge tool settles it in seconds.
  4. Length: for pan head screws, measure from under the head to the tip (countersunk heads are the exception: they are measured overall).
  5. The records span 6–29.5 mm, which means different positions take different lengths — match each hole to its own screw.
  6. Driver: the source does not name the drive. Standard M3 heads take PH1 for Phillips and T10 for Torx, and a 2.5 mm hex key for socket heads; a bit that fits loosely will cam out and strip the head.
  7. Tightening: no device-specific torque is published in these records. The site's general figure for M3 is about 80-130 N·cm into metal threads and 35-60 N·cm into plastic bosses; snug it up and stop.

Common mix-ups with M3 / M4

  • Power-tool gearcase and clamshell screws are usually thread-forming (marked "ST") even when the parts list gives an M-size — a normal machine screw of the same size may not hold in the plastic boss.
  • Blender, toothbrush and shaver teardowns list Torx/Phillips bit sizes only; a T8 bit tells you nothing about the thread.
  • Grounding-lug screws on Siemens and Beckhoff gear (M4) are earth hardware, not structural mounting screws — don't reuse them to hold a module.
  • Robot vacuum, air purifier and baby monitor teardowns list screws by driver and length only — length is not a thread size.

M3 × 6 mm for parts list: Screw, tapping M3 by 6 mm; M3 × 6 mm for parts list: Screw, pan head M3 by 6 mm (to hold plastic to plastic); M3 × 6 mm for parts list: Screw, w/washer M3 by 6 mm; M3 × 8 mm for parts list item 4: Screw, M3 by 8, part XA9-1200-000CN; M3 × 8 mm for parts list item 6: Screw, M3 by 8, RS, part XA9-1276-000CN; M3 × 6 mm for parts list item 13: Screw, M3 by 6, RS, part XA9-1275-000CN; M3 × 29.5 mm for parts list: Screw, W/W, M3 by 29.5, part XA9-0668-000CN; M4 × 10 mm for parts list item 3: Screw, M4 by 10, part XA9-1189-000CN.
How long are the screws in HP LaserJet 9000/9040/9050 series printer?
The records range from 6 to 29.5 mm depending on the position, so match each screw to its own hole.
What is the thread pitch of an M3 screw?
0.5 mm (coarse), which is the standard pitch for M3 machine screws; a 0.35 mm fine pitch exists but is uncommon. The tap drill is 2.5 mm and the normal clearance hole is 3.4 mm.
What screwdriver do I need for HP LaserJet 9000/9040/9050 series printer?
The sources do not name the drive. For M3, Phillips heads normally take PH1 and Torx heads T10; socket heads take a 2.5 mm hex key.
Can I use an imperial screw instead of M3?
No. Imperial look-alike: #5-40 (3.18 mm) or #4-40 — neither interchanges with M3. Use a true M3 screw so it does not cross-thread or strip the hole.
Where can I buy replacement screws for HP LaserJet 9000/9040/9050 series printer?
TechSpareWarehouse (our own store) lists M3 x 6mm and M3 x 8mm, which match lengths in the records above.
